Lisa Ling
Lisa Ling shared her secret. Would you?
Lisa Ling visited the ladies of “The View” this morning to talk about something she believes many women are hesitant to discuss:  Miscarriage.
On the show, Ling reveals that she herself suffered a devastating miscarriage about six months ago.  A self-proclaimed ambitious and competent person, the 32-year-old journalist says the news left her feeling like an “incredible failure.”
Initially, she kept her tragedy to herself, going online in search of support and information. But when she finally did reach out to her circle of friends, she was surprised to learn how many of them had also suffered silently after miscarrying a child.
The experience moved Ling to create a place where women can bare their souls and reveal their deepest, darkest secrets safely and anonymously.  It’s called the Secret Society of Women and is intended to facilitate conversations about the things we keep hidden even from those closest to us.
And while the site may have been inspired by Ling’s miscarriage, the conversations taking place there are wide-ranging.  From the Secret Society of Women:
Welcome to our secret society.  Of women.  By women.  For women.  A place where we can divulge our deepest secrets about how we look, what we regret, who we fantasize about, what we aspire to do, or whatever else we’ve been keeping inside of us.
From addictions and body image issues to relationships and work, anonymous members let it all hang out in a supportive and loving environment.  The entries are moving, sad, hilarious and hopeful.
Ling hopes that by revealing her own secret, others will be encouraged to do the same.  But if you aren’t quite ready to go on the “The View” and spill your guts,  the Secret Society of Women will keep your secret until you are.

Two things come to mind with this story. As a parent of vaccine injured children, I question and wonder if she recently received a flu vaccine? There are reports of higher than normal miscarriages due to this and even on the leaflets for H1n1, it says to NOT GIVE TO PREGNANT WOMEN. The other is, her husband is an oncologist. Oncologist are constantly around chemotherapy drugs, and are known mutagenic and toxic drugs. Those that administer the medicines have to wear gloves and masks, and the miscarriage rate among them is quite high. Even when they make the drugs for chemo, they have to put on full OSHA medicine protection suits. I just wonder if modern medicine has created thee “mysterious miscarriages”, you know? Don’t take my word for it, google. Lisa, I wish I can talk to you about this?

I had the exact same experience as Lisa Ling. I had two miscarriages and felt like a failure and a freak. When I started finally telling some friends about what happened, I was shocked at how many of them told me they also have experienced miscarriages. I think what Ling is doing is wonderful.

@Kathy Blanco- sorry, but you are just spreading fear. The great majority of miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities.
Also, I read that there was no difference in the miscarriage rate for those women who received the flu vaccine. The reason there is anecdotal evidence is because a certain percentage of women will miscarry, and of course those who have gotten a flu shot might think this was the cause. Personally, my miscarriages happened in the spring and summer, so there was no flu vaccine involved.
I am most disturbed by your comment “Don’t take my word for it, google.” There is so much misinformation on the internet that you can basically find anyone supporting any idea. Just because you can google something does not make it true.

Well said, Laure68.
Pregnant women should not receive the flu vaccine that’s delivered via nasal spray. The injected vaccine for seasonal and H1N1 influenzas is safe, and indeed recommended for, pregnant women. In fact, pregnant women were among the populations most at risk for severe complications from the H1N1 strain, and were able to get vaccinated ahead of the general population while the vaccine shortages were in effect.
So no, the leaflets said no such thing.
