Leslie Nielsen's last role, the voice-over for an animation known as 'The Watermelon Movie,' may never be released due to financing troubles.
Leslie Nielsen might not get the last laugh after all.
The late "Naked Gun" star's final film, a low-budget animated production he voiced, may never see the light of day due to financial constraints.
Director Bryan Waterman told TMZ.com that producers couldn't afford to pay for the "great deal" of animation required to complete "The Waterman Movie."
The filmmaker is reportedly offering a "special thanks" at the end of the credits to whoever can provide funding to complete the project. On the film's official website, a PayPal account is set up to accept donations.
"We can still make this dream a reality, but we need your help!"  Waterman tweeted in August.
Waterman also plans to dedicate the film to Nielsen, who died on Sunday at the age of 84 and who, according to imdb.com, plays Ready Espanosa, a world famous explorer who suddenly goes missing.
"If only for a little while, I was friends with a super hero," Waterman tweeted on Sunday. "You will be deeply missed."
Also reportedly in the works at his time of Nielsen's death was "Naked Gun 4," though in an interview with the BBC in May he revealed he was not yet "involved."
This year also sees the release of "Stonerville," a comedy about the world of on line advertising, in which Nielsen plays a small part as a producer.
